1916 Harley Davidson
The 1916 Harley Davidson was only the second model to benefit from electrical lighting; previous models relied upon oil lamps or none. In addition to lights, the 1916 model debuted a modern starting technique that would become universal to motorcycling, and aptly called a ‘kick-starter’. Most differences to the 1916 J model were cosmetic, there were few noteworthy mechanical advancements.
Among the few mechanical changes was a curved intake manifold to feed the venerable F-head V-twin, and the magneto was relocated behind the engine, and was switched on and off with a key.
