1988 Honda VFR-750R RC30

$27,153.00

 Product Description

1988 Honda VFR750R RC30

Released in 1987, the Honda VFR750R RC30 was a true 'homologation' special. A clean-sheet design built to conform to the then new World Superbike Championship, it was truly exotic, (a direct descendent of the RVF750 race bike for the road). Each RC30 was built by hand in Honda’s Hamamatsu plant, which is now home to Honda’s all-powerful HRC organisation. The RC30 was only produced over 4 years, 1987 to 1990, and total production amounted to 4,782 bikes, a number that doesn’t really seem all that ‘limited’ a production, but when you consider these were a purpose-built race bike it’s not had to imagine why their numbers are relatively sparse today. Built using the most advanced technology of the time; the VFR750R RC30 was frighteningly expensive when new, retailing in the UK for £8,495.00 in 87, and £13,000.00 for the final production.

Built to do one job only, win races, and boy did it deliver. Fred Merkel took the first two WSB titles in 1988 and 1989, Carl Fogarty the F1 Championship and Steve Hislop hammered the RC30 round the TT course to achieve the first 120mph lap in 1989. A year later, fifteen of the twenty-five finishers in the TT F1 class were RC30s!

Fast forward to present day and if you want to own one, you’re going to have to dig deep; prices are only going one way! Last recorded sale (Bonham’s Las Vegas 2018) saw a low mile RC30 sell under the hammer for $92kUSD ($127kAUD ex-rate June 18). The RC30 is more than a classic bike, it’s a design icon. Everything about it makes you want one. The looks, the heritage and the noise of that V4 motor are the icing on this very yummy cake.

This particular RC30 is a (JDM) Japan Domestic Model, unmolested and only 8,000 k’s on the clock. Owing to years of sitting idle some of the paint work is faded and protective coatings on hardware is showing signs of corrosion. Currently the bike is undergoing minor refurbishment and touch-ups and when compared to current values presents as excellent buying at the advertised asking price. Better photo’s will be posted once the make-over competed. The RC30 is currently located in Melbourne and the advertised price includes delivery within Australia.
